The Boosted Damage Painting Challenge Thread: October

Postby dancingmonkey » Sun Sep 30, 2012 7:18 pm

Welcome to the brand new Boosted Damage Painting Challenge

The idea is that listeners to the show can come onboard and paint along with the hosts and other noted painters (hopefully from around the world) then at the end of each challenge post up in this thread for feedback, criticism and hopefully a chance to take their painting to another level.

This month we will be focussing on the human face.
By the end of October, you should aim to paint one (or more if you like) human (or elf or dwarf) faces to the best of your ability, then take a decent photo and put it up in the thread.
Note, they do not need to be PP models, they can be anything, including non complete models/parts eg: a GW empire head only... right up to a fully painted model.,
If possible show a shot of your model/part before paint is added too, the idea is to paint it this month, not just grab something out of the figure case as you won't be improving then will you?

Please keep any comments fair but friendly, the idea is to help each other, not shoot people down in flames.

So, no matter your (perciecved) level of painting, I look forward to seeing your work here.

Cheers.
Jon.

Ok I'll give this a go...

Wonder if you've got any links of any hints and tips for face painting?

Hi there,

I recently finished up a couple of models where I've painted close to the top level of my abilities. But I haven't painted them specifically for this challenge. Can I still post them up for brutal criticisms? :D

As for guides, hints and tips:

Hand Cannon - Female faces and make up
HC - Expressive faces and eyes

Garden Ninja Studios - Male faces
GNS - Female faces
GNS - Eyes

GNS - Complex skin tones

The idea is that you paint the model/part over the month of the challenge, otherwise it just encourages us to take stuff out of our painted collections.
If it was painted super recently then I guess its cool.

That's cool. I've got a midwinter on my table that's been undercoated for a while now. Wouldn't want him to be too lonely so he'll be given a bit of paint.

Hello

I am literally just getting into Warmachine & Hordes. Ordered the 2 player starter set a couple of weeks ago and have been busy painting whilst listening to you guys on the podcasts. This painting challenge is really appealing to me, I want to get better and more patient at painting. I have nearly finished painting the battle box, and painted Kaya The Wildborn yesterday. I am happy with the model, but on close inspection of the face it does look wonky.

Where do I post the picture?

I decided to start Bloging my Warmachine experince

Any messages, feedback and comments are very welcome

Really enjoy the podcasts - although some of it goes over my head
