Malifaux

Has anyone tried this out? It looks pretty good and has a Warmachine like design, but uses cards instead of dice and works on a smaller scale (Think Necromunda size). I'm really tempted to pick it up and champion it a bit round my area.

I bought some figs to paint and then a deck and rule book as one of my local oppo's decided that he'd like to try it.

There are a lot of the figures that I like, but some of them just don't float my boat really. There seems to be quite a mix of styles really.

The rule book is a lovely book though, really nicely designed, lots of good stuff in it. No hobby section though and not pics of figures at all. Still the book looks very ncie and is well laid out. Certainly worth the money.

The rules have hurt my head a bit but I've not actually managed to find the time to play it yet, most probably we'll play a few games once Savage Skies is out of the way.

It does look interesting though, the card mechanic is different, being able to change the outcome of a "duel" is pretty good, like re-rolls I guess but with a more predictable outcome.

So on the whole it looks good, I don't think that it's something that I'll go for in a big way unless the playing experience is really, really cool but as a pick up game for something different from time to time it could be pretty cool.

I was thinking about purchasing the book about 2 months ago before the d6g hype etc. I had seen the Wyrd Miniatures stuff ages ago and knew they were putting a rule set together for their stuff. The only problem is I dont like all their stuff.

And ofc, its another game to play!!

I have had a few games of it and it is a good little game. The card system used is a great mechanic and the game itself is simple however, there is not enough of a game to grab me to starts this up as I feel that it is too simple. It feels that it would be best suited for narrative play than anything else or as a roleplay skirmish. Even though there are quite a few members of the club that are buying in to it, I going to keep to the side lines here.

I am 50/50 with the models. Some are "Wow thats nice" and others are "OMG thats hiddious".

Nice idea but even though the fluff is good and remindes me of "Deadlands" quite a bit (and I really liked Deadlands RPG), there is not enough for a indepth skirmish game here and this is why that IMO this would be better as a roleplay skirmish game. I will probably play it once in a while but there is not enough for me to replace Wm/H as my main game.

Flash,

I think you have summed up my thoughts on the game much more eloquently than I did. Especially with regard to the models, I know that it's selling well at the moment but I do think that it's a fad and that it's not going to last, and I've still yet to play it.

Actually the more I think about it the more I think I should have put the money for the book and the figures in to more Hordes and Warmachine stuff.

I posted the first portion of my initial impressions at Lost Hemisphere yesterday, working on the writing up the second post now.

I think it's definitely worth a dabble.
